Oil painting era came after inks, and casein is the most recent.
With the casein, I'm making my own paints with dry pigments and a casein binder.
Those same pigments can be mixed with refined linseed oil to make my own oils.
All three (inks, oils, casein) can be utilized in the same work, given some consideration for their properties.
